Look at the Birds

on December 7, 2010

This morning at a red light I looked up and noticed some crows landing on the phone wire.  Each one landing softly and moving over slightly for the next to land.  One of the birds had what appeared to be a big, fat worm in its mouth.  As I watched them a few short moments the thought occurred to me how they were all there just doing life together.  Just floating around on the wind, perching on wires, eating and being together.  No toiling, no fear if there neighbor likes them or not, no worries about their next meal.  Just flying, gliding, perching, eating, and doing it all again.  They live, they move, they are.

Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father keeps feeding them. Are you not worth much more than they? Matthew 6:26
There are lessons to be learned from the birds.  They have everything they need for the moment.   We are the children of God.  Why do we worry and complain as if  He isn’t able and willing to give all we need and even abundantly more than we could ever think or ask?  The Father is gracious in his giving and takes pleasure in caring for and blessing us.  For no other reason than we are His children.  He knew us before we were even formed and placed us in the world at just the precise time.  He not only gives us what we need but allows us even more to help others in need so that none may be found lacking.  Problem is we are often storing up what someone else can use now.  So, next time you are feeling like things aren’t going so well, or that you have nothing to give, or that you are somehow lacking, look at the birds.  Remember your worth.
