Comfort Through Sufferings

on March 16, 2013

2 Corinthians 1:4-6 (NLT) 4 He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. For the more we suffer for Christ, the more God will shower us with his comfort through Christ. Even when we are weighed down with troubles, it is for your comfort and salvation! For when we ourselves are comforted, we will certainly comfort you. Then you can patiently endure the same things we suffer.

Woke up this morning with heaven on my mind.  No, not singing a song, but considering the glory for which is before us.  Jesus Himself.  Often I have spent time in prayer for the Lord to relive us of our suffering. How are you suffering, you might ask.  Each of us has a cross that we are to take up and bear.  Mine is that of being a single woman, the mother of many, trying to carry a message to the body of Christ throughout the world to bring about a spirit of community where true and undefiled religion is practiced. Caring for the widow, the orphans, and the fatherless, and keeping oneself unstained from the world.  The suffering isn’t in not being married, or in having so many kids, or even caring for a child with special needs.  The chains are for which I proclaim the mystery of the message.  There is ridicule and mocking in doing this alone.  The problem is no widow, no single adult – male or female – no orphan, no fatherless child, should be alone and without a community of people gathered round to bring them up in the Kingdom of God.  There is suffering in knowing my heart is only filled with the wanting of being a woman after the heart of God.  Being fatherless, widowed, and /or orphaned does not exempt us too from bearing the burden of the orphan, the fatherless, and the widow. There is a way for all to endure to the end, and so they shall be saved.  Jesus!  You give beauty for ashes, strength for fear, gladness for mourning, and peace for despair.

We are fatherless – Yet, You are Father to the fatherless!  I am without a husband – Yet, my Maker is my husband!  We were forsaken and abused – Yet, You bind up our wounds!  My son slips away at times to another place in his mind – Yet, You have given him the mind of Christ!  We live in a neighborhood that has become quite scary  – Yet, we are seated in heavenly places and You hide us under Your wings!  Friends have deserted us – Yet, You are a Friend who sticks closer than a brother!  Family misunderstands and mocks us – Yet, You place the lonely in families and sing songs of deliverance over us!  Isaiah 8:18: Behold, I and the children whom the Lord has given me are for signs and wonders in the earth…

Master! Savior! Redeemer! Friend! Healer! Deliver! Strong Tower! Hope for Tomorrow! Way Maker! Joy Giver! Peace Maker! Miracle Worker!

Comforted to comfort, we will do the same.  “You have been shown O’ man what is good, and what does the Lord require of you?  To do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly before your God.”
