Psalm 91:4 HE shall cover you with HIS pinions and under HIS wings you shall trust and find refuge…

Broken Places

on October 25, 2015

bROKEN HEARTEDThis past week I dreamed the children and I were in our van traveling slowly on the top of glass shattered all over the road ahead. There was NO WAY to travel around it. Every turn there seemed to be shards in the way.  There was no turn around – no exit.  It was the road we had to take.  All we could do is continue straight on and pray for the tires to hold, believing somehow, someway, we would make to a better place further down the road and would be able to move faster, and it would be safer with no obstacles of potential danger and harm in our way.

Life in the midst of trial. Brokenness only you and God can understand. Shattered pieces of the heart and yet a continuing on in hopes of better times. Ever persevering. Ever seeking for a better way or maybe for the road to be less harsh. Sometimes it is the way that has been asked of us. An easier road might be the wrong way.

Thankfully God specializes in broken people, broken places, broken things, and  broken spirits.

My [only] sacrifice [acceptable] to God is a broken spirit; A broken and contrite heart [broken with sorrow for sin, thoroughly penitent], such, O God, You will not despise. Psalm 51:17

His love is faithful.  His ear is not deaf. His arm not too short to save.

Luke 3:5 Every ravine shall be filled up, And every mountain and hill shall be leveled; And the crooked [places] shall be made straight, And the rough roads smooth

There will come a day for the path set before us will be less threatening. There will come a day when traveling on dangerous ground is no longer required of us.

There is a story of Jesus looking at the disciple and telling them “you feed them.” They were baffled. How could they possibly feed the masses?  They find a boy with 5 loaves and 2 fish and Jesus blesses it and everyone eats. What I like most about this story was the least likely –  a boy and his lunch was used to feed thousands, and afterward, Jesus took up the fragments and there was more than in the beginning. Isn’t that just like Jesus? The boy took the little He had and gave. Trust had to be present.

Father as we travel a road filled with harsh and broken places we trust you will take up the brokenness before us, bless it, use it for Your glory, and in return we will receive beauty for ashes, oil of joy for mourning, garments of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD. Help us to continue on our road cautiously and with full hope until we reach our final destination. Always following Your lead. In Jesus Name.

“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad and easy to travel is the path that leads the way to destruction and eternal loss, and there are many who enter through it.
But small is the gate and narrow and difficult to travel is the path that leads the way to [everlasting] life, and there are few who find it.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference. (excerpt from Robert Frost – The Road Not Taken)

Acts 20:24 But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.
